NAO Engages Stakeholders on its Draft Bill 2024
Subsequent to the consultation event on June 5th, 2024, we held a pre-validation event with multi-stakeholders on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2024, on the draft NAO Bill 2024 as part of the planned stakeholder activities, before its introduction to the Cabinet. The event was attended by various stakeholder representatives from the government, donor community, media, civil society, and regulatory bodies.
The pre-validation exercise involved a detailed review of the contents of the Bill and gathering participants’ observations, and recommendations.
With the overall aim of the Bill being to strengthen the independence and governance of the NAO to effectively and efficiently deliver its mandate as the Supreme Audit Institution of the Gambia, one of the main objects of the Bill is also the process outline for the application of the Surcharge provision in Section 160 (2) (b) of the 1997 Constitution, amongst others.
Deliberations from the part of the participants centred mainly on parts II and III of the Draft Bill: Establishment of the NAO & its Governing Board, and the Appointment of the AG & Ancillary matters respectively.
