Mr. Modou Ceesay, Auditor General of The Gambia has been appointed as the first Chairperson of the Governing Council of the African Professionalisation Initiative (API), effective 5 May 2025. The Appointment was held during the Council’s meeting in Kigali, Rwanda.
This historic appointment reflects AG Ceesay’s longstanding commitment to promoting professionalization for public sector excellence and ethical governance.
As a transformative leader and reform advocate, AG Ceesay has played a pivotal role in advancing public financial management reforms in The Gambia and across Africa. His leadership was instrumental in formalising The Gambia’s partnership with API through the development and signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) including onboarding learners and fostering strategic regional collaborations.
In his new role as the First Chairperson, Mr. Ceesay will guide API’s mission to professionalise Africa’s public sector workforce – equipping civil servants with the skills, ethics, and competencies required to deliver effective and accountable governance.
This appointment marks a new chapter in Africa’s journey toward a future-ready and high-performing public service for Africa.
