NAO Hosts the AFROSAI-E Sub-regional Workshop on Financial Audit Manual and Compliance Audit Manual (FAM and CAM)
The Gambia National Audit Office (NAO) in collaboration with the African Organization of English-speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI-E) is hosting the sub-regional workshop on finance and compliance audit manuals (FAM & CAM) at the Senegambia Beach Hotel from March 13 to 24, 2023.
The workshop, which brings together participants from Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) of Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, and Uganda, is geared towards orienting the senior staff of the respective SAIs on the revised AFROSAI-E FAM and CAM for smooth implementation by the SAIs.
Participants in the workshop are expected to further participate in:
- Supporting the implementation of the revised audit methodologies.
- Making recommendations on how to align the methodologies to the SAI mandate.
- Supporting customizing the manuals for the SAI.
- Conducting quality control reviews from level 1 upwards.
- Assisting with regional training if required at a later stage.
In his official opening remarks, AG Ceesay applauded the AFROSAI-E for the capacity-building programmes that it offers to its members. He shared “I am happy to observe and see that capacity building is one of the key areas that AFROSAI-E provides for its members which is quite fundamental because now more than ever, the expectations on Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) to deliver on their mandates have increased from all angles – thus, capacity-building initiatives should and must always be central in our operational planning and manifested in the audit products and services that we produce”.
He implored the participants to continue to learn and familiarize themselves with these manuals as they are the working tools that determine the quality of the audits conducted. On the part of AFROSAI-E, Technical Manager, Nonhlanla also shared that at the level of AFROSAI-E, the secretariat is happy for the continued support to SAIs to deliver on their mandates in making a difference in the lives of their citizens.
The two weeks workshop will also accord participants the opportunity to learn as well as share experiences and lessons learned with regard to the use of the manuals.
